"Medici per la Pace", "Doctors for Peace" in English, was born in Italy on February 10 1996 during a visit to Padaung village, around Kalaw, in central Myanmar (Burma). The people exist in conditions of extreme poverty. A visiting doctor, Fabrizio Abrescia of Verona, Italy saw the possibility to improve them with inexpensive social health-care projects . That was the origin of Medici per la Pace activities in Italy. Working as a volunteer association dedicated to international health cooperation, Dr. Abrescia and his friends began to organize small relief projects and to take health care to some the poorest people in the world. In April, 2009, Doctors for Peace USA was formed in Verona, Wisconsin. We hope to learn from our Italian colleagues and members of Medici per la Pace and to do similar projects cooperating with American doctors, nurses, dentists, and other persons who may or may not already provide health care services in the United States.
